Justly hailed as "The Greatest Entertainer In The World", Sammy Davis Jr. was a singer, musician, dancer, actor, and even a gunslinger of remarkable dexterity. He received his first Billboard review in August 1951 when, together with the Will Mastin Trio, he appeared in a 20 minute spot at Bill Miller's Riviera nightspot in Fort Lee, New Jersey. The review read: "Sammy Davis Jr is a sure-fire talent who excels in every department. He is about 25. Davis is a superlative hoofer, a suave gabber and a standout mimic. His only hazard is the possibility of burning himself out before his time in a long term that requires him to go at a sprinter's clip." The songs on this collection stem mainly from the late '50s and early '60s and feature many of his superb recordings for Decca, along with some of the joyous new sounds he created for Reprise.
